小金井橋は上の地図では左下にある。小金井公園の南側を走る五日市街道。その南側を流れるのが玉川上水。
Koganeibashi小金井橋（koganei Bridge) is located at the left bottom of the above map. The bridge is over Tamagawa Aqueduct which flows along the southside of Itsukaichi kaido 五日市街道(Itsukaichi Avenue)
玉川上水（たまがわじょうすい）は、かつて江戸市中へ飲料水を供給していた上水（上水道として利用される溝渠）であり、江戸の六上水の一つである。多摩の羽村から四谷までの全長43kmが1653年に築かれた。また、一部区間は、現在でも東京都水道局の現役の水道施設として活用されている。
承応元年（1652年）11月、幕府により江戸の飲料水不足を解消するため多摩川からの上水開削が計画された。工事の総奉行に老中で川越藩主の松平信綱、水道奉行に伊奈忠治（没後は忠克）が就き、庄右衛門・清右衛門兄弟（玉川兄弟）が工事を請負った。資金として公儀6000両が拠出された。ウイキペディア
玉川上水べりは江戸時代以来の桜の名所。
Tamagawa Aqueduct (玉川上水, Tamagawa Jōsui) is a 43 km long Japanese aqueduct located in Tokyo. In 1653、It was constructed by the Tokugawa shogunate to supply drinking and fire-fighting water from the Tama river to Edo, providing irrigation water around farm villages. It is not used for the same purpose, but
you can see some carps swimming in the aqueduct below Jinyabashi (陣屋橋）which is located south of Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.
The Aqueduct has been famous for the beautiful cherry blossoms since Edo Era.
You can see Mt.Fuji which Hiroshige loved as most Japanese people from a cavity of the cherry tree. Cherry lives around 50 years. It is evident that so many trees have been planted by many people.
Mt.Fuji from Koganei Park. You can see it winter evening through clear air if you are lucky.

This is Shinjuku not Koganei, but same Tamagawa aqueduct at Edo era.It is said this place is now near from Sekaido世界堂, Shinjuku, that is quite difficult to imagine. Sekaido is one of the most famous shops for Art supplies, comic supplies, stationery, drafting supplies, etc.
